After leaving the Upper Room and heading into the Garden of Gethsemane, Christ Jesus brought comfort and encouragement to the Eleven. And then we read these words: “When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven . . ..”[1]
We are now entering into what we often call Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer. By all accounts it is The Lord’s Prayer. It is the inner sanctum of the heart of Christ. It is holy ground. Justin Taylor wrote: “Jesus’ “high priestly prayer” (John 17) is only about 650 words. It takes only 3 minutes and 30 seconds to read it aloud. But it will take all eternity for us to fully understand it!”[2]
