Amid this important conversation, 3 disciples ask 3 important questions. Each question leads to a deeper, more significant answer by our Lord.
a. Peter asks, “Lord, where are you going?”
b. Thomas asks, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
c. Philip asks, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
We are thankful this morning for the questioning hearts of Peter and Thomas. Christ’s answer to both is clear; and clearly provocative. It can be summarized by 2 points:
1. Jesus is the only Savior.
2. Jesus is the only means of reaching the Father
Both thoughts are supporting of each other. “Jesus alone is able to provide access to God because he alone paid the penalty for our sins (Is 53:5; Heb 1:3).”
